Feb. 20, 2012 - PRLog -- COSTA MESA, CA, February 17th 2012 -- Newport Mesa Masonic Lodge is partnering with Simple eWaste, an electronics recycling company, to host an electronics recycling event in Costa Mesa. The e-waste collection event will be set up as a drive-through and drop-off event. Staff will be on site to collect items from your car quickly and conveniently. Most any electronic device will be accepted, though there are some restrictions set by the state on what can be collected; Monitors, televisions (TVs), computers, laptops, cell phones, telephones, printers, speakers, keyboards, mice, PDAs, radios, stereos, MP3s, DVDs, CD Players, game consoles, and VCRs will all be accepted. However, household appliances, liquids, smoke detectors, microwaves, batteries, ink/toner cartridges, and cans/bottles can not be accepted.

Donors will receive a donation receipt, which can be deducted from their taxes.

E‐waste is the fastest growing municipal waste stream in the United States. Every year, 20 to 50 million metric tons of electronic waste is generated worldwide, while only 10-18% of electronics are recycled. This is equivalent to throwing away up to 125,000 fully-loaded Boeing 747s each year. Though California has laws set in place to keep electronics from entering our landfills, public awareness is still lacking. It's important for Californians to know that, when placed in a landfill, even in small doses, the materials that are found in most electronics can contaminate soil as well as drinking water.  According to the Global Futures Foundation, electronic waste accounts for 70% of the overall toxic waste currently found in landfills.
