By: Don Allen, IBNN Does Black History in the United States have a future? Who can we look to that will keep Black America in the history books through progressive accomplishments and exceeding the expectations of a country that has never really ended slavery or Jim Crow mentalities? Join Don Allen, editor in chief of the Independent Business News Network and St. Thomas Law Professor Nekima Levy-Pounds as they take this special hour during KFAI-FM’s Black History Month Celebration to breakdown the Black epidemic that has caused Black America (specifically Black Minnesota) to repeat and experience historical events from the Great Migration to a 2012 version of Jim Crow. Don Allen is a leader, visionary, innovator, activist, risk-taker, and entrepreneur with a track record of success that spans more than three decades. More importantly, He’s a problem solver. Mr. Allen sense of design and process and in-depth analyses of local and national politics, social service agencies and educational institutions has led him down a path to uncover systemic failures. Mr. Allen states, “To be successful, you must have critics and a few good haters. These are people who know what you say is real – but have been sucking off the teat of corruption for too long and would loose everything. Benign neglect in the Black communities around the United States must end in 2012.” Allen’s special guest, Dr. Nekima Levy-Pounds, Esq is an Associate Professor of Law at the University of St. Thomas and the director of the Community Justice Project (CJP), an award-winning civil rights legal clinic. Levy-Pounds serves as a consultant to local civil rights organizations, government entities, schools, and community groups on issues such as racial disparities in the criminal justice system, the school to prison pipeline, gang databases, and police misconduct. Additionally, Levy-Pounds is the Interim Board Chair of Brotherhood, Inc., a local non-profit designed to uplift and employ African American males, ages 16-24, who have had contact with the criminal justice system or gangs.
