Feb. 17, 2012 - PRLog -- PORT CHESTER, NEW YORK – In 2010, Ukulele sales in the US totaled $42 million, or 3.3% of the total fretted musical instrument market. That's up 16% from the previous year. And that figure is expected to rise substantially for 2011.

With the rising popularity of the Ukulele, Dean Tomasula thinks now would be the perfect time to publish a high-quality, full-color print magazine dedicated to the little Hawaiian instrument. There currently are no high-quality magazines devoted to the Ukulele printed in the US. In fact, there are only a handful published worldwide. There are a number of publications published online as PDF downloads.

The new publication, to be called the 'ukulele magazine (http://www.theukulelemagazine.com), will feature musician profiles, Ukulele news, photographic essays and CD and gear reviews. Written for people the play and enjoy the Ukulele, the publication will feature musician profiles written from a musicianship perspective. More than mere personality profiles, the 'ukulele magazine will feature stories about the musicians' playing techniques, musical influences and gear preferences. The magazine also will feature how-to articles on playing and caring for Ukuleles.

“Interest in the Ukulele has exploded worldwide in the past two years,” Tomasula said. “The time is definitely right for a well-written publication featuring interesting articles and high-quality photography.”

Tomasula is seeking funding for the project from Kickstarter (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1698576947/the-ukulel...), an online service that enables people interested in the various projects posted to pledge money to fund the project. As little as $1.00 can be pledged for a project. He's also seeking funding from IndieGoGo (http://www.indiegogo.com/the-ukulele-magzine?a=431726).

“There is a lot of interest in a high-quality publication devoted to the Ukulele,” Tomasula said. “I think the 'ukulele magazine will be eagerly accepted when it comes out.”
