PPC Works with Arbor Day Foundation to Offer Free Saplings to Students
Through collaboration with the Paperboard Packing Council (PPC), the Arbor Day Foundation will once again provide a large array of tree saplings as a way to honor Earth Day on April 22nd, and National Paperboard Packaging Week, April 16-20, 2012.

Companies are encouraged to distribute the saplings free of charge to students, teachers, or even employees, as part of TICCIT, an outreach and education program geared towards elementary school children that highlights the renewability and sustainability of paperboard packaging and the enormous value of trees to our environment.
As part of TICCIT, participating students are taught how to plant saplings in used milk cartons that are collected from the school’s cafeteria or brought in from home. Participants then instruct the children on how to plant these saplings—and the biodegradable cartons—in local neighborhoods or in their own backyards.
Once full grown, the trees will help restore flora that has been damaged by fire or disease; provide a natural and attractive way to cool homes, schools, or workplaces in the summer; and keep icy winds at bay in the winter.
“Thanks to this alliance between PPC and the Arbor Day Foundation, we’re able to provide hundreds of schoolchildren with not only free saplings, but key environmental education,” explains Ben Markens, President of PPC. “We love this time of year because we’re afforded the opportunity to get outside, plant some trees, and teach our communities about the numerous benefits of sustainable packaging.”
The Arbor Day Foundation is providing a variety of saplings suitable for different regions of the country for just $1 each (50-tree minimum order). Any company that is interested in participating should place their orders at www.arborday.org/
