Feb. 15, 2012 - PRLog -- Colleges and universities have used community education and lifelong learning as a local educational outreach.   Non-credit courses have been the vehicle for the community to learn new skills and engage in productive activities.  David Ewen has been teaching book publishing and business at universities and colleges since 2004    His written evaluations from students have been superior and student success has been proven publicly.   However, he has recently found colleges cutting back on community education or eliminating the program entirely.    “Budgets have forced some the colleges to fail in their community education outreach”, says David.     Last Fall, a class was not scheduled at a local community college so that it could be posted as new in the Spring 2012.  When time came around, the Spring 2012 class was put on hold again until the Fall with suggested different scheduling plan.   At another school, the university cancelled the entire Spring 2012 program out with an announcement emailed to all instructors.   David was told that a stroke of a pen with the influence of budget cancelled community education at that university.

David is now taking his 8 year experience at 13 universities and colleges in four states to bring it together to create Forest Academy.     Forest Academy focuses entirely on lifelong learning and community education.     Classes with instructors hired are held at the Bing Arts Center and boardrooms at local hotels in the Pioneer Valley.    Forest Academy is run under the  nonprofit 501(c)(3) Ewen Prime Company.    As a nonprofit entity focusing entirely on community education, Forest Academy won’t be squeezed by budgets or new programs.     David says, “We can focus on what people want and enjoy to create the best programs people are looking for.   Learning is a positive engaging activity and needs to be recognized.”    The Forest Academy web site  is:  http://www.forestacademy.org/       David has found some instructors and is currently seeking others to teach hobbies, skills, and activities.

The launch of Forest Academy is on Saturday, August 18 at 9AM at the Bing Arts Center.  The ribbon cutting ceremony will be at 8:30 with a short word from David Ewen.  On that day, the workshop seminar “Get Your Book or Film Produced, Published, & Marketed” will be held at the Bing Arts Center in Springfield starting promptly at 9AM.     Tickets are $10 at the door for the 4 hour event.   The description of the workshop seminar is below:
