Follow on Google News | Walmart's ‘Get on the Shelf’ Contest Generates Over 32 Hours of YouTube VideosWalmart's version of "American Idol" for best new products has been underway in a big way since starting with 60 entries on Jan 18th. As of today, Walmart has over 2,800 videos entered and more than 1300 accepted into the contest.

Tice's product was accepted into the contest on Jan 31st. As of today he has watched about a quarter of them. The average length of a video submission is about 90 seconds. With 1300 videos in the contest so far he will need to watch 32.5 hours of YouTube videos. He anticipates by the closed of the contest on Feb 22nd Walmart will have approximately 1500 entries. "This contest is going to be huge for a handful of companies. It's actually much more than just getting your product on Walmart's shelves. They are offering to help with marketing, production, and even logistics." Hopefuls can pitch their products with a YouTube video until February 22nd. The first round of voting will happen between March 7th and April 4th. 10 finalist will be chosen and those products will be voted on from April 11th to April 24th. The top three products will be produced, shipped, and stocked at Walmarts around the country. End
