NJCTS Wednesday Webinar series continues with presentation on OCD in children and adolescents

Feb. 14, 2012 - PRLog -- The most conservative estimates report Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) in 1 out of every 200 students – meaning that statistically, several students suffer with the disorder in nearly every school. OCD will be addressed in the next New Jersey Center for Tourette Syndrome & Associated Disorders (NJCTS) Wednesday Webinar from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 29.

Titled “OCD in Children and Adolescents: Guidelines for Parents and Educators,” this webinar will review the assessment and diagnosis of OCD in children and adolescents, as well as discuss the cognitive behavioral treatment of the disorder – with a special emphasis on the use of storytelling in explaining and executing the treatment for these age groups.

The webinar also will look more specifically at how OCD manifests itself within the school setting, how it can affect family members and will review specific guidelines for parents and educators for how to respond to a child or adolescent struggling with the disorder.

This presentation will be given by Dr. Allen Weg, the founder and executive director of Stress and Anxiety Services of New Jersey in East Brunswick, which specializes in individual and group cognitive behavioral treatment of anxiety disorders in children, adolescents and adults.

NJCTS presents online seminars for parents, educators and professionals on topics of interest to the Tourette Syndrome community at no-cost to participants. TS is a neurological disorder in which as many as 1 in 100 people show symptoms.

In 2008, NJCTS launched the Wednesday Webinar series, which currently draws an audience from 48 states and 11 countries.
