Now in its third performance season, the show is being pulled from future scheduling at the NarroWay Theatre to make room for new Broadway-style shows.
By: Alisha Anders - NarroWay Productions Set in 1969, "Billy Loves Bobby Sue" features significant historical content from the 1960's. From the first manned lunar flight in December 1968 to Neil Armstrong's first step on the moon in July 1969, the show recalls some of the greatest moments in American history. But it also recalls the time of unrest and uncertainty surrounding the Vietnam War and the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The historical content provides the backdrop and thoroughly establishes the time period, but it is not at all the plot of the show. As with most NarroWay originals, the historical content weaves seamlessly throughout the various scenes and provides a revealing social context while developing a unique and relevant storyline to challenge and inspire a modern audience. NarroWay Productions is one of the few premier Christian theaters in the United States. True to that premise, "Billy Loves Bobby Sue" challenges the audience to unashamedly stand for the convictions of their faith. It is a story about going forward in life, regardless of the past, and defining a future based upon what is inside the heart. What starts out as a dare ends up as destiny as a godly old grandmother teaches that you "can't judge a book by its cover." This hilarious but touching musical is full of energy and leaves the audience feeling terrific. "Billy Loves Bobby Sue" is featured in a special Valentine's Day performance on Tuesday, February 14. The show then plays for the following two weekends and closes out its run on February 25. "It was a difficult decision to pull this show from our line-up," says director Rebecca Martin. "But we had to make room for new shows. We currently run seven different Broadway-style shows, plus a Mother's Day variety show at the NarroWay Theatre. We barely get one show open before the set has to come down for the next one." "Billy Loves Bobby Sue" will go into the NarroWay vault for an unspecified period of time. However, there are plans to make the show available for performance by outside groups, such as local theaters, high school drama departments, church groups and other performance companies. Writers Rebecca Martin and Yvonne Clark plan to release the show, along with various other works, through New NarroWay Publishing later this year. Information on upcoming availability can be found at http://www.newnarrowaypublishing.net. Tickets for the final run of the show are available online at www.narroway.net or by calling the NarroWay box office at 803.802.2300. # # # About NarroWay Productions.
