Feb. 12, 2012 - PRLog -- There is a difference between cheap and quality body work that most people do not understand.  When a person has an auto accident or any other dilemma with their car’s appearance, many people will go shop to auto body shop and try to get the lowest possible estimate.  In these situations, a bad choice for body or collision work could easily be made.  Not all consumer’s are educated on the difference between the cheap and quality body work so a poor decision may easily be made on the cheaper price unintentionally.  Learning how to choose the right body shop for their needs are what people need to understand.

What is cheap body work?  Cheap body work is performed at a body repair shop that uses low quality paint, materials and methods to swiftly repair and paint your car.  Some of these cheaper places rely on a fast volume of cars to supply their income.  In other words they are like a production company, only trying to mass produce a fast and cheap product on automobiles.  Other cheap body shops may take longer, but still use the cheaper, low quality paint and materials on their automobiles.  The paint in these cases usually has a low lasting life and will soon chip, peal and/or fade starting within the first year.  Many people in these situations are fooled only because of the beauty of their repaired car glimmering with fresh paint.  Even if these paint jobs carry a lifetime warranty, your car will only look worse and worse until you either give up on trying to get your car right or realize it is what it is.

Quality body work, what is this mean?  This is the total opposite of the cheap body work.  Quality body work uses the highest quality paints, materials and methods to repair and paint your car.  This procedure usually takes more time for the better techniques, but in the long run, the paint lasts for a very long time.  The paint and materials used to prepare the paint are designed for long lasting bonding therefore rarely would have any fading, chipping or pealing issues.  The auto body shops that perform this type of work will charge more for the work since the paint and materials cost a substantial higher amount.  The result is a like new look finish and the finish will exactly match the factory finish leaving only a remarkably beautiful paint job on these automobiles.  These paint jobs should look great for years after the job was performed.  A quality body and paint job always has a lifetime warranty, but you probably will never have to go back for any warranty issues.

Is there a such thing as cheap quality body work?  The only way to cut corners, so to speak, is to change the proper procedure on the repair of the car.  Some shops may even risk the safety of your car just to save a buck.  You have to beware of these types of shops because the safety of you, your passengers and fellow drivers are all at stake.  Saving $100 on an auto body repair is certainly not worth it if someone gets injured or deceased due to a poor repair causing  a structure failure in the next accident, if there is one.  Most auto body shops that do work right follow the same pricing and repair guidelines which is why these estimates are usually very close in price.

Now weigh in all of the factors of your decision for a body shop, but consider the age of your car.  For example, if you need a paint job on your car, and you feel the whole car needs to be painted, you must factor in the age of the car versus the value of the car.  In other words, if you have an older car that is worth $3500 and needs a overall paint job, is it worth it to spend $3500 on a quality paint job or do you go with a cheaper low quality paint job for 1/3 of the price?  If you really value this car, you may go with the quality paint job, but if this car is not going to be around very long, it may be wise to go with the cheaper low quality job.  Now, if you have a car that is 1 to 6 years old and is in great shape, until a mishap or collision happens, which type of job should you get?  Simple, if you want a lasting repair and finish that resembles what the car just looked like that will last, choose the quality paint job.  If you don’t care about the car, maybe you want rid of it, then maybe the cheaper job would benefit you better.

It comes down to one thing, whether you want a cheap or quality paint job, make sure you are getting what you want.  Make sure that if you are trying to get a quality paint job or auto body repair, you are not fooled into getting a cheap low quality job that you will regret in time.  Just do your homework on the shop you want to use and make sure you understand the quality of the job you are getting.  Make sure that your car’s safety is first no matter what type of paint or collision job you choose.
