A favourite amongst the Veruca Salt office, Chanel is synonymous with luxury, with founder Coco Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld both legendary in the world of fashion.

Born in 1883, Coco was a colourful character who became a revered style icon famously known for her sophistication – a simple, classic outfit with the very greatest of accessories. It’s often said that she is perhaps THE most important designer of our time, and Time Magazine appeared to agree after making her the only fashion designer to feature on their 100 Most Important People of the 20th Century list. Who could ever forget the infamous pearls and tweed suits?

Coco pioneered the use of sportswear as high-fashion in the 20’s and her LBD, costume jewellery and love of tanning quickly became her legacy, along with the her many timeless designs.

In 1921, the infamous Chanel No5 perfum was born and has since remained an iconic classic. A few decades later we saw the introduction of the softly structured tweed suits, still made today they are a staple for any follower of timeless fashion. The 50’s must have been an inspiration, not to mention Coco’s love of riding, as it also brought us the unmistakably Chanel quilted leather handbag – simply a must-have, now and always.

Today, Karl Lagerfeld heads Chanel, one of Paris’ few remaining haute couture salons, following a rich legacy of codes, updating them with ingenious twists.

Simply put in the words of Coco herself “I am neither in the past nor avant-garde. My style follows life.”

A true inspiration. Chanel.
