Feb. 4, 2012 - PRLog -- Most of the staff at a Liverpool-based environmental charity are to lose their jobs, it has been announced.

Groundwork Merseyside, which employs 30 staff, is cutting 26 posts after going into administration.

The charity, which works with disadvantaged communities, was due to manage the Liverpool Festival Gardens site when it reopens later this year.

A statement from the charity said it was "with enormous regret" it had had to appoint insolvency practitioners.

It also stated: "The funding landscape for charitable organisations has changed beyond recognition in the past 18 months and it has become impossible for Groundwork Merseyside to continue trading.

"Groundwork Merseyside is part of the Federation of Groundwork Trusts and it is hoped that the charitable work taking place in communities around Merseyside will continue but will be managed by neighbouring Groundwork offices across the north west region."

The Land Trust, which owns the Festival Gardens site on Riverside Drive, said the process to find a new management company for the site was under way.
