Feb. 3, 2012 - PRLog -- Comedian and former St. Louisan Jeremy Essig will be returning to town to record the CD Exile on Hitt Street at Brennan's Wine and Tobacco in the Central West End. The perennial Funny Bone favorite and headliner nation-wide performs two live shows February 10-11.

Essig has appeared over 15 times on the nationally syndicated Bob and Tom Show, SiriusXM satellite radio and Public Radio DC. In addition to his current tour with fellow music enthusiast Brian Posehn since 2009, Essig's 10-plus years in comedy have found him in 37 states sharing the stage with the likes of Zack Galifinakis, Doug Stanhope, Greg Giraldo, Norm MacDonald, Mitch Hedberg, Dave Attell, and Jeffrey Ross. He has also been featured in St. Louis Magazine, Indianapolis’s NUVO magazine and the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Due to the turbulent events of recent years, Essig has developed a more personal comedic style, evidenced in his new stories and insights that will be recorded for his fourth CD, an homage to his residence while living in Columbia, MO. This recording will take place in the basement at Brennan's Wine and Tobacco in St. Louis. A more intimate venue, Essig chose Brennan's in the hopes that the venue’s size will provide a different sound than his previous albums.

“I was watching a lot of band documentaries. At some point they all seemed to try recording in a different venue, like the Stones doing Exile [on Main St.] in Keith's basement.....or Rick Rubin recording [Red Hot Chili Peppers'] Blood Sugar Sex Magik in a house somewhere in LA. So, I thought instead of a comedy club (where I did the last three), I would try a more intimate venue and see if we could get a warmer sound.”

Three months after releasing his third CD Monque in 2008, Jeremy Essig was filling out an application for graduate school. Exhausted from 7 years of constant touring, and a bit disillusioned with the business of comedy, Essig was prepared to move his life in a new direction.

After being admitted to the University of Missouri’s journalism program, Essig began working as a statehouse reporter and editor in Jefferson City. He also began cutting his touring schedule down in preparation for an eventual move to Washington D.C. after graduation. One phone call, however, would render these plans moot.

During his first month of graduate school, Essig received a call asking him to open for Brian Posehn in St. Louis. While he could not do the initial show, he would eventually work with Posehn in Bloomington, IN and Columbus, OH a month later. These shows would eventually lead to his current tour with Posehn, taking Essig from New York City to Denver and many places in between.

Due largely to these shows, Essig found his love for comedy re-ignited, and threw himself once again into writing new material. While he still planned to graduate from the journalism program, a divorce in late 2010 would put an end to his studies. Emotionally raw, Essig found comfort and solace in the darkness of a comedy stage, and would eventually discontinue his studies in early 2011.
