Feb. 3, 2012 - PRLog -- According to the Centers for Disease Control, 1 in 80 U.S. children (nearly one percent) have some form of autism, this is 20 times higher than the rate in the 80's.  Families dealing with Autism Spectrum Disorders on a daily basis are often fighting to get services for their children.  It is an emotional and financial fight as many of the services are often far away, not covered by insurance, or have long waiting lists. Many parents even considering relocating out of state in search of treatment, unaware of the vast network of experts that reside in their own backyard.

Health Dimensions, a Michigan based compounding pharmacy, wants to make accessibility and awareness to these services and health providers easier for Michigan families with children on the Autism Spectrum. On Saturday April 21, 2012 (During Autism Awareness Month) Health Dimensions will host the Michigan Autism Physicians Network’s (MAPN) second annual autism conference at the Troy Sommerset Inn from 8am – 6pm. The conference will be presented by local medical professionals who’s goal is to educate parents about various treatment options for those effected by Autism Spectrum Disorders. To accomplish this, the seminar will be split into three parts during the day: Beginner, Advanced, and Complimentary Therapies.

The conference will cover everything from beginner to more advanced topics, ranging from biomedical therapies, gastrointestinal issues, and Autism diets, to hyperbaric oxygen therapy, choosing quality vitamins and supplements, and behavioral therapies. Disorders such as autoimmune and mitochondrial will be highlighted along with information on nuerofeedback procedures.

“Children on the autism spectrum have the potential to be healed and recovered if they get access to treatment and services,” said James Neuenschwander MD, founder of the BioEnergy Medical Center in Ann Arbor and is one of five doctors that will participate in the seminar. “We know early intervention has the best results for their future and the reality is, help is closer than many people think.”

Neuenschwander along with doctors John Wycoff DO, Teresa Birkmeirer MD, Tony Boggess MD, Amy Mckenzie MD, and  Indaina specialist Sara Wine DO, will all be in attendance to present on a multitude of topics.

Many of the physicians have children or family members who are on the Autism Spectrum, affording attendees an opportunity to interface with doctors who have had to practice what they preach on a daiily basis. This years MAPN event will be a great opportunity for parents to network with other parents, physicians, and other heath professionals who have a common goal – to create and utilize the best resources available for dealing with Autism. A parent panel will also be available for an in-depth question-and-answer session.

The cost of the seminar is $98 ($125.00 after 2/14/2012), which includes a gourmet gluten free lunch, and conference notes. Due to popular demand and high attendance last year, there are limited seats available this year. Conference, lodging info, and registration may be found at www.hdrx.com/mapn.

NOTE: During Autism Awareness month in April, if you or your organization would like to interview one or more of the physicians listed to discuss Autism, please contact Dena Sabou at dsabou@hdrx.com to arrange an interview.
