Feb. 2, 2012 - PRLog -- NewSat is set to execute its satellite capacity deal with MEASAT Satellite Systems Sdn. Bhd. (MEASAT). The deal includes the provision of transponder capacity on the upcoming Jabiruā€1 Ka-band satellite. The first satellite to be owned and operated by wholly owned Australian firm, Jabiru 1 will carry multiple transponders to serve South and South East Asian markets.

The  US$180 million deal will be finalized over the next two weeks. NewSat is yet to complete the technical specifications and execute the lease agreement for MEASAT's capacity on Jabiru-2.

The contract sets a minimum satellite capacity of US$180 million for MEASAT. One of the major satellite operators in Asia, MEASAT has 15 years of experience in the business, serving various international broadcasters, DTH providers and telecommunications carriers. The additional capacity from Jabiru will support backup service for MEASAT's well established clientele.

Last month,  MEASAT closed a separate satellite capacity contract with SkyVision Global Networks Ltd. MEASAT's AFRICASAT-1 satellite will support the ISP infrastructures of SkyVision across the African region.
