Car Emergency Kits - What you Need to Keep Safe

West Palm Beach, FL – Murray and Guari Trial Attorneys share some important information on roadside safety and the items you should have in your vehicle’s emergency car kit to stay safe.

The reality is accidents happens and cars and trucks breakdown every day. According to an MSNBC article, the Automobile Association of America (AAA) handles almost 30 million roadside calls for help each year. At best you realize that you’ve broken down and you’ve been inconvenienced. Worse is your safety is at risk, with the possibly of being stranded alone with an incapacitated vehicle, in a remote area, with no help in site. You never know when you will need help. That’s why it is important to be prepared for anything that may happen when you are on Florida’s roadways.

Some of the common reasons for roadside breakdowns include but are not limited to: battery failure, locked out of the vehicle, flat tire, ran out of fuel or the engine overheated. The best thing you can do to prevent a vehicle breakdown is to ensure your vehicle is properly maintained. Also, know your vehicle and where everything is located, including its safety features and how everything works.

If you are fortunate, you have a cell phone handy and are a member of a roadside assistance program. If not, here are some things that should always be in your car:

* Cell Phone and Charger
* Basic First-Aid Safety
* Hazard Triangles or Flares
* Flashlight
* Tire Gauge
* Jack and Tire Iron
* Spare Tire
* Jumper Cables
* Simple Tool Kit
* Fire Extinguisher
* Window Punch
* Seat Belt Cutter

In Florida, it is especially important to prepare for and have a plan if your vehicle ends up in canal or other water source. You will need a tool that will allow you to escape your vehicle as you will most likely not able to use the door or open the windows. Look for a dual-purpose tool that not only breaks glass, but cuts seat belt webbing too.

If you were in an auto accident, it is very important that all the details are recorded. You should keep a pen, paper and a disposable camera in your vehicle. To assist you in getting that information should you find yourself involved in an accident, our law firm has developed a handy Auto Accident Checklist in both English and Spanish. You can download these from our website at http://www.murrayguari.com/Brochures. Print and keep them in all of your vehicle's glove boxes, or you can call us at 561-366-9099 and we will be happy to mail you some.

Murray & Guari strongly encourages you to be prepared, establish your safety kits/plans, and take the necessary steps to make sure that you and your family are safe while driving.
