Living in Brooklyn is bad for your health

Brooklyn event will use TV-featured technology to test locals’ antioxidant levels

Feb. 2, 2012 - PRLog -- New Yorkers know a thing or two about stress and pollution – but they might not know how these factors, along with poor diet and lack of exercise, cause oxidization which damages cells and can lead to cancer. Now, for the first time in Brooklyn, an Antioxidant Reset Workshop will use the latest technology to assess locals’ existing damage, and offer advice on simple lifestyle changes to reduce the chances of future illness.

“Oxidative stress is kind of like iron rusting, or an apple going brown,” said Aja Davis, founder of New Body Boot Camp NYC. “It weakens your cells, leaving your body more vulnerable to cancer and other illnesses. Busy, overstretched people in cities like New York are particularly at risk – and their diet typically doesn’t give them what their body needs to fight back. Luckily, there are simple lifestyle and diet changes we can make to greatly reduce the damage.”

The workshop, to be held on February 11 in New Body Boot Camp’s headquarters in Brooklyn,  will give attendees the chance to measure their antioxidant health using a Biophotonic scanner. This device, recently profiled on The Dr. Oz Show, is based on Nobel Prize-winning technology and allows a non-invasive scan to establish antioxidant levels in just 90 seconds.

“Antioxidants fight the war on cancer with prevention,” said Dr. Oz. “They might just be your body’s secret weapon.” 80% of Americans have dangerously low antioxidant levels.
Diet is the most effective way of boosting antioxidant levels, yet busy city-dwellers often fail to get the mix of foods they need to cultivate an effective network of antioxidants.

“A lot of people think it’s just ‘common sense’ and that they need to ‘eat better’,” says Davis. “But it’s important to know how to give your body the full range of antioxidants it needs – and how to add supplements if you’re too busy to cook or you’re in a particularly at-risk group.”
As well as testing attendees’ antioxidant levels, the workshop will give advice about how to improve diet and lifestyle to boost the body’s defenses, including sample recipes.

The Antioxidant Reset Workshop will take place at 10am on February 11, at 552 Union Street (at 3rd Avenue), Brooklyn NY 11215. It costs $10. Visit  http://www.newbodybootcampnyc.com/antioxidant-reset to register
