Cystic Fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States (70,000 worldwide). CF is caused by defective or missing cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) proteins resulting from mutations in the CFTR gene. KALYDECO is for adults and pediatric patients age 6 years and older: and administered one 150 mg tablet taken orally every 12 hours with fat-containing food. It has been approved to treat people with at least one copy of the G551D mutation, the most common gating defect representing approximately 4 percent of those with CF, or about 1,200 people in the United States. Foundation Care opened its doors in 2004 as a full service retail pharmacy with a specialty in treating cystic fibrosis. Since then, their pharmacists and staff have become extremely knowledgeable in the treatment of CF. Also, their relationships with caregivers, physicians, and insurance providers across the nation ensure that each patient receives the expertise and guidance needed in today’s complex healthcare world. Over the years, Foundation Care has constantly strived to find new ways to make a patient’s treatment easier and more affordable. “Being a provider of KALYDECO is very exciting for Foundation Care.
