Chelsea Clinton To Join Girl Scouts Of Eastern Massachusetts In 100th Anniversary Celebration

The Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts will mark the 100th year of girl scouting with an inspirational evening, the Forever Green Gala Celebration, with featured guest Chelsea Clinton.

Feb. 1, 2012 - PRLog -- The Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts (GSEM) will mark the 100th year of girl scouting with an inspirational evening, the Forever Green Gala Celebration, with featured guest Chelsea Clinton. The event's “Forever Green” theme expresses Girl Scout’s commitment to the environment, the sustainability of its organization and the thriving sisterhood that continues to grow through Girl Scouting each year.

Chelsea Clinton, who was a member of the Girl Scouts during her years growing up in Arkansas, is both an accomplished scholar and advocate for encouraging and enabling the advancement of all girls. Joining her on stage for a discussion of the impact and relevance of scouting in achieving life goals will be young members of the Girls Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts.

“Chelsea Clinton epitomizes the very best of Girl Scouts.  She is a perfect role model for the next generation of leaders, today's girls," notes Ruth N. Bramson, Chief Executive Officer, Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts. “As we reach our centennial and celebrate the history and accomplishments of the Girl Scout movement in Massachusetts, we are proud to have Chelsea with us to help deliver our message that investing in the sustainability of our movement is vital to ensure that in the next one hundred years girl scouting will continue to be vital to the development of leadership for our young girls who will change the world.”

The Forever Green Gala Celebration will be held Thursday, March 29 at the Fairmont Copley Plaza, also celebrating its centennial this year. A reception will begin at 6:00 p.m., with dinner and program to follow beginning at 7:00 p.m. In addition to the appearance by Chelsea Clinton, the evening will also feature a fashion show of Girl Scout uniforms through the years, by Boston designer Denise Hajjar, with Girl Scouts as models. Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino will conduct a live auction. Bianca de la Garza, Co-anchor, WCVB TV, Channel 5's EyeOpener Newscast will serve as emcee.

The honorary co-chairs of the event include Governor Deval Patrick and First Lady of Massachusetts Diane Patrick, Mayor Thomas Menino and Angela F. Menino, as well as Stacey and Larry Lucchino and Michelle and Greg Shell.

The March 29th Forever Green Gala Celebration kicks off year long festivities planned for the 100th year anniversary. In the works are:  an Earth Day Forever Green Party for the Planet at Franklin Park Zoo, which is also 100 this year, on Sunday, April 22; an All Together Volunteer Celebration and Awards event on April 28 at UMass Boston; a Forever Green Festival at the Barnstable County Fairgrounds on Sunday, June 3 and a Forever Green Camporee, for girl scouts in grades 4 to 12, to be held the weekend of June 1-3 at the Barnstable County Fairgrounds.
