Feb. 1, 2012 - PRLog -- Led by process engineer Richard O’ Brien (25) and including up to fifteen team members, the 13 in 24 Team’s challenge is to hike and ultimately crawl over thirteen Munros in 24 hours over a single weekend in May, taking in two of the most iconic ridge walks in the Scottish Highlands. Starting at the base of the Glenshiel Ridge, the team will bag seven Munros before tackling the five sisters of Kintale, three of which are Munros. The challenge ends with a jaunt up Saileag, Sgurr a Bhealaich Dheirg and Aonach Mheachoin, covering around thirty miles and scaling over 16,000 feet of uphill walking, the equivalent height of Mont Blanc. The hike takes the group a step further than a similar expedition in 2011 when they accomplished the well known 4 Peak Challenge for charity, raising over £8,500 for Cancer Research UK.

Richard O’ Brien, leader of the project, states: “This is a great way to push ourselves to the limits and raise money for two great causes at the same time. Combining our hill walking experience with Inspire’s fundraising and event capabilities means we will be able to put on a fantastic launch event worthy of the cause that will, in connection with our media promotion, raise great awareness of our expedition. We are looking forward to raising a huge amount of money for both Inspire and Make a Wish Foundation, smashing our previous fundraising amount from 2011.”

Fiona Poustie, Head of Business Development & Communications at Inspire, continues, "We are delighted that Richard and his team have chosen Inspire as their local charity of choice for their latest fundraising expedition. We are looking forward to working closely with the 13 in 24 team to promote their cause whilst raising as much money as possible for Inspire in the process.”

To kick off the challenge, the group will be throwing a launch party on Friday, February 17th at Inspire on Aberdeen’s Beach Boulevard. Starting at 8pm till late, the party promises to be a fantastic way to raise awareness of the project and also raise funds for the charity. All are welcome with all proceeds from the bar on the night going directly to Inspire.
