Jan. 29, 2012 - PRLog -- Sunshine Roth, National Director of Events and Community Liaison for Stand & Salute American Heroes (SASAH), selected Minnesota resident and combat wounded veteran and Purple Heart  recipient  SGT Emily Pesta of The Minnesota Army National Guard.

The Honor Event will take place at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota on January 31st in a pregame ceremony.  ARNG (Ret) SGT Michael Peterson will serve as Stand & Salute American Heroes "Boots on the Ground".  SGT Peterson was the recipient of the same award last year.  SGT Peterson stated "I'm very excited about Emily receiving her award.  I have a great amount of respect for Emily and this award is something that will be very special to her family".

Serving with the Minnesota National Guards Alpha Company 134th Brigade Support Battalion, SGT Emily Pesta deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  On  March 23rd, 2007 SGT Pesta, along with two other members of her unit; Michael Peterson and Ryan Sabinish, were traveling near the vicinity of Nasiriyah when their Humvee hit an explosively formed penetrator (EFP).  Nasiriyah is about 50 miles north of Basra and about 200 miles south of Baghdad.

SGT Pesta sustained injuries from the blast, as did the rest of her crew.  SGT Pesta showed great courage during this stressful time.   She ignored her injuries and administered first aid to her gunner, who was severely injured.  Because of her actions that day, after a couple of weeks of recuperation, she and her crew were able to continue the mission.  SGT Pesta is a true Hero.

Ms. Roth stated that the staff's appreciation regarding the support of the Minnesota Wild Hockey team, saying, "It was a pleasure to be able to recognize the genuine care and affinity with the Minnesota Wild community relations staff when they were told the story of SGT Pesta. The Minnesota Wild Team expressed a deep commitment that Minnesota Wild ownership have in recognizing the service and sacrifices of the men and women of Minnesota who serve in the United States Armed Forces.
