At seventeen, How to Lose Weight never crossed my mind. I was close to six feet tall and weighed about one hundred and forty-five pounds.  I could eat anything that I pleased and it had little to no effect.  When we are young, I believe that we have a lot going in our favor; We are still growing, our metabolism is very active, and so are we!  I went through a good portion of my adult life having very little concern about my weight.

I was happily going through life without any concern about my weight.  Until, one day around the turn of the century, I was teasing my wife about her weight (not smart) and my first grand daughter spoke up and said, “Pawpaw, have you looked in the mirror lately?  Like age, weight will creep up on you.  Over the years, I was still around six feet tall but now weighed close to two hundred and twenty pounds.  The reality is that over the span of three to four decades my weight has almost doubled.

I know enough about losing weight to know that it is not an easy thing to accomplish.  I have found out that the reason it is so hard is that it doesn’t come naturally.  Just the opposite, when you get sleepy, you cure the problem by getting some sleep.  However, have you ever noticed that if you stay awake longer than what you are accustomed to, sleeping is difficult and your well being gets thrown out of kilter.  After three to four decades of eating as I pleased, I believe my system got accustomed to the wrong things to do.  If you have a weight concern, don’t wait several decades to address the condition.  Address the problem sooner rather than later.
