Jan. 25, 2012 - PRLog -- The United States veterans can now step up their life insurance coverage, the Veterans Affairs Department announced. However, since everybody is not a participant of the Veterans Group Life Insurance Program, 1800InsuranceToday offered other citizens a policy that accepts even those with pre-existing conditions.

The beefing up of the coverage was made possible by the 2010 Veterans' Benefits Act. As part of the said act, members of the Veterans Group Life Insurance Program can receive the maximum coverage available which is $400 000.

However, not all service members are eligible for coverage step-up. Participants of the program who are younger than 60 on the five-year anniversary date of the coverage and who currently get less than the maximum coverage are the only ones eligible.

“Veterans can now beef-up their life insurance coverages. That's according to the new law as said by the Veterans Affair  Department.”

“Basically, it is the 2010 Veterans' Benefit Act  that allows the veterans to get an upgrade on their life insurance policy. According to the said act, the retired service men can now receive the maximum coverage available under the Servicemembers' Group Life Insurance Program. In figures, that maximum coverage converts to $400 000.”

“However, not all veterans can get this particular life insurance benefit. If you want it, you first have to be younger than 60 on the five-year anniversary date of your coverage. Additionally, you have to be currently receiving less than the maximum coverage.”

“Under a new law, participants in the Veterans Group Life Insurance Program will now have an opportunity to beef up their coverage, the Veterans Affairs Department has announced.”

“As a part of the 2010 Veterans' Benefits Act, they can receive the equivalent of the maximum coverage available under the Servicemembers' Group Life Insurance Program. This means veterans can step up their coverage by $25,000 in five-year intervals from the date their policy began. The maximum SGLI coverage is $400,000.”

“According to a VA press release, only 21 percent of eligible veterans have taken advantage of the increase.”
