Ahmad Rashad Hosts 60th Oregon Sports Awards February 12, 2012

Jan. 25, 2012 - PRLog -- PORTLAND, Ore. – Sunday, February 12, 2012, the state’s top athletes, teams, coaches and fans will gather in the Tiger Woods Center at the Nike World Headquarters for the 60th Oregon Sports Awards honoring achievements in 2011.

A fast-paced, entertaining stage show similar in style to ESPN’s ESPY Awards, the Oregon Sports Awards features a who’s-who-in-Oregon-sports attendance list plus an illustrious group of award winners and presenters. Emmy award-winning sportscaster, University of Oregon College Football Hall of Famer and star NFL player, Ahmad Rashad, will host the show for the 6th consecutive year. Portland Trail Blazers sports-broadcasting legend, Bill Schonely, will return as the show ambassador.

The Oregon Sports Awards is a joint production of SportsOne and Nike, two Beaverton area-based companies rooted deeply in Oregon Sports. Kicking off with an illuminated red-carpet entrance and pre-show party, the exciting two-hour show is held in the state-of-the-art, 770-seat Stanford Theatre at the Nike World Headquarters.

“Again this year, the Oregon Sports Awards will bring athletes, coaches, legends, rising stars and fans from nearly every athletic level and myriad sports together under one roof. It’s truly an inspirational celebration honoring Oregon’s rich sports legacy,” said Jim Etzel, President and CEO of SportsOne. “SportsOne is thrilled to produce this one-of-a-kind, fun-filled experience; it is one of our favorite nights of the year.”

Athletes from the Portland Trail Blazers, Portland Timbers and Portland Winterhawks plus other sports celebrities will present awards in 19 categories. In all but a few categories, the winners will be selected by a statewide voting panel comprised of television, radio and print media personalities plus other respected sports professionals. All winners will be announced live on stage at the show.

Originally the Hayward Banquet of Champions, the Oregon Sports Awards began in 1948 to honor Oregon’s outstanding professional and amateur athletes, teams, coaches and administrators from many levels and a wide range of sports.
