The money raised feeds 118 local children for an entire school year and benefits the Paul Sands Scholarship Fund.
By: Samantha Scott The 2011 Slaw Dog Invitational committee is proud to announce, they raised $11,500 total. $2,000 will go to the Paul Sands Scholarship Fund part of the REIS (Real Estate Investment Society) Scholarship Foundation, a not-for-profit, registered 501(c)3 corporation which provides an opportunity to make charitable donations for college scholarships. The bulk, $9,500 will go to Blessings in a Backpack, another not-for-profit 501(c)3 corporation of which Fischer is the Chairman. They provide food for local underprivileged children. The donated funds will feed 118 children for an entire school year! Blessings in a Backpack is a program designed to feed elementary school children who qualify for the federal free and reduced meal program and may not have any or enough food on the weekends. Eighty dollars feeds a child for an entire school year. All donations go directly to the local, Tice Elementary students.
