Being laid off from her manufacturing position at the auto giant and taking on a new job in an area of unfamiliarity, Mary Parker soared creating something out of nothing in a her new role in security. She learned by studying, taking many classes and seminars, mentoring relationships, and networking. Her efforts paid off. In November 1991, Mary was demoted from her position as Director of Security then reassigned to another unfamiliar position, as a Human Resources specialist. Because of her ambitions, career path and dedication to security she immediately recognized that HR was not the fit for her. Taking control of her destiny, she moved on to Atlanta Georgia to start a security company with a partner in 1992. She left the partnership in 2000, thus, in 2001, she founded ALL(n)1 Security at her kitchen table.
Fast forward and Ms. Parker is standing on a stage at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center in Atlanta, as president & CEO of a company that is the only nationally certified African American Female owned full service security firm in the United States, receiving The Trumpet Award for Business, one of the nation’s most prestigious honors.
The Trumpet Awards was created by Xernona Clayton, Founder, and President of the Trumpet Awards Foundation to celebrate and honor African American achievement in diverse fields. The show was initiated in 1993 by Turner Broadcasting and is televised annually in over 185 countries.
After 30 years of groundbreaking success including going from one employee to over 200 and operating a multi-million dollar security enterprise, Mary Parker is among the honorees recognized in the 20th Annual Trumpet Awards Foundation ceremony to be aired Easter Sunday, April 8 on TV One.
With comedian Wayne Brady, (host of CBS TV’s Let’s Make A Deal), as host and among honorees including Earth Wind and Fire, Ted Turner and Aretha Franklin accepting on behalf of her late father, Mary Parker is poised, confident and grateful as she accepts her award. (should names of all honorees be listed)
“I, Mary Parker, ALL(n)1 Security, stand on the shoulders of my ancestors, from a small country town, in Grenada, Mississippi, where many years ago, they deeply planted the seeds of success in that rich, black, moisture soil that was their universe. They cultivated the seed with faith. They nurtured the seed with love and patience and told me to sit back and wait for the harvest. Today, in a male dominated culture, a non-traditional culture, the voices of my ancestors, constantly remind me of what the author, Norman Vincent Peal, remind all of us, "you can, if you think you can.”
