The Revoluticon aims to revolutionize the Columbus, Ohio convention scene by abandoning the traditional comic book and science fiction convention formats.

Jan. 23, 2012 - PRLog -- Sci-fi and comic book conventions have traditionally focused the bulk of their content on promoting their own industries and selling as much product as possible instead of entertaining their attendees. Revoluticon will take a different approach that will focus heavily on entertaining instead of selling and feature extensive live programming including a variety hour, several game show spin-offs, quiz shows, a play put on by the staff, improv comedy, and an event based on "Fight Club" which will pit fandom characters against each other in zany mock battles.

The Revoluticon will change the convention scene by taking the innovative format that Anime Punch uses for its Japanese animation convention, The Armageddicon, and applying it to the Western fandoms of comic books, science-fiction, American animation, web comics, and English language literature. The primary goal is to put on a show for the attendees instead of focusing on selling as much merchandise to the attendees as possible, critically analyze these various artistic mediums in a panel and roundtable format, and hosting several parties for the attendees at night. This will provide a more dynamic and interactive convention experience that focuses heavily on content and fan enjoyment instead of the industry players themselves. Anime Punch has traditionally focused exclusively on Japanese animation so the addition of this new convention marks a turning point for the organization.

Anime Punch's flagship convention, The Armageddicon, is moving its dates from Spring 2012 to December 21, 2012 and in that Spring time slot, March 16-18, 2012, Anime Punch will host The Revoluticon. More details can be found at Animepunch.org/revoluticon.

Anime Punch is an organization founded in 2005 as a reaction against traditional anime convention format. They have put their focus on serious academic discussion by day and wild partying by night while targeting a college age demographic. Anime Punch also strives to build a healthy fan community in Columbus, Ohio where they host monthly discussions about Japanese animation as art at the local Urban Arts Space and a weekly Nerd Night event every Monday from 9am-2am at the Ruby Tuesday bar on Summit and 19th.
