Jan. 25, 2012 - PRLog -- Ashworth College (http://www.ashworthcollege.edu/), a leading online school, has unveiled an online resource for those interested in the nutrition, fitness and exercise just in time for the annual tradition of making New Year’s Resolutions. Ashworth created this specialty group within its online Community to provide enthusiasts and those interested in related career fields such as personal training, dietary, and health science with industry best practices, career insights, and invaluable information for furthering their professional skills.

Ashworth offers several nationally accredited online degree, certificate and diploma programs in health sciences, fitness and health care and its Nutrition-Fitness-Exercise Group currently has over 1,500 members (as of December 2011) which is part of the larger 100,000 plus online Ashworth Community.

“Our goal is to be a trusted resource to those interested in topics relating to health science, nutrition, and fitness and exercise and we strive to provide timely and relevant content and dialog,” said Amy Bernard, Director of Interactive Marketing for Ashworth College.

She went on to add “For our students, we wanted to create a comprehensive online learning environment where they can interact with others who have similar interests and goals, faculty, and working professionals in the health science and health care fields. For prospective students, it also provides a forum to gather information and to ask questions that will benefit their personal well being or to help make informed decisions about their educational needs.”

Ashworth has been educating working adults for the past 25 years. With the launch of the Nutrition-Fitness-Exercise Group, Ashworth now provides a state-of-the-art online resource that shares professional content with non-students, as well as social networking opportunities for existing students. Group members and visitors will find:

•   A network of motivated and engaged students willing to encourage others by sharing personal, professional and educational insights and successes.
•   Timely and relevant content regarding all aspects of health care and fitness -- from personal benefits for the fitness enthusiast to trends and technological advancements and career opportunities for the future professional.
•   Online study groups comprised of current Ashworth students enrolled in one of its educational programs. Members offer assistance with lessons and provide moral support to group members.
•   Insights from students. Prospective students will benefit by learning from current students on what it is like to be an Ashworth student, how to be successful as an online student, and about Ashworth’s selection of heath science, diet and nutrition, fitness and health care programs.

Job growth through 2018 will result from an increasing number of people spending time and money on improved dietary habits and fitness while more businesses start to recognize the benefits of health and fitness programs for their employees. The U.S. Department of Labor projects opportunities for those working in dietitian/nutritionist occupations to grow up to 8% and jobs in the fitness industry to increase as much as 29%.

“What we are eating -- and what we are not -- is literally shaping Middle America and the key to any successful lifestyle change is proper motivation and support,” said Ashworth graduate and interventional cardiologist Dr. Michael S. Fenster, MD. “Having a resource like the Ashworth College Fitness, Diet and Nutrition group in the school’s online Community gives you the tools to make positive changes in your life and those around you.”

Dr. Fenster is a 2009 graduate of Ashworth’s Gourmet Cooking and Catering program. He successfully applies his education to promoting healthy living as a professional chef, cooking show host, and author of Become A Grassroots Gourmet. He is also a contributing writer for columnist for Basil magazine, Fitness magazine, and SheKnows.com.
