emiLime Showcases Modern Peruvian Design at NY International Gift Fair

Multi-Functional Details Highlight emiLime’s Authentic Handcrafted Accessories
Jan. 23, 2012 - PRLog -- AUSTIN, TX — January 23, 2012 — emiLime, authentic handcrafted accessories for the modern conscionista will be exhibiting at the New York International Gift Fair, Saturday, January 28 through Wednesday, February 1.

Aside from its classic line of hats, scarves, gloves and wraps that emiLime has become known for, the company we will also introduce a small collection of purses at this years show. The bags are made from hand woven fabric that comes from the Northern part of Peru combined with beautiful leather detailing.

Founded by up and coming fashion anthropologist after traveling through South America, Emily E. Green, is very technique focused and finds most of her inspiration from visiting the villages she works with and studying their culture while finding a way to incorporate techniques and materials from other villages.

“I go through my mental rolodex thinking of other artisans in Peru and how I could blend what they are doing with other artisans in different regions,” said emiLime founder, designer and fashion anthropologist Emily E. Green.  “For example, I love the metallic thread wrapping they do in Huancayo (the mountains of Peru) and am trying to incorporate it with some designs that I am working on with artisans in the jungle. These two groups have never worked together so I really like the idea of using all the diversity within one country to create something entirely new.”

This show kicks off a new direction for the company as emiLime starts to incorporate a lot more bull horn into her designs. In fact, emiLime is doing a separate jewelry line dedicated to items made entirely from horn, but also plans to use it as details for buttons and other adornments throughout emiLime’s knitted designs.  New to purses, the woven fabric is made from both sheep wool and cotton with leather and horn accents while all the fabric remains highly textured with bold stripes.

“Incorporating the tactile experience into any handmade items is essential because that is really where you can find the biggest difference between handmade and machine made designs,” explained Emily. “Slight variations, bumps, puffiness and overall smoothness with rough patches all cause a reaction when you are sliding your hand across an item and these are some of the biggest design trends I'm seeing in handmade products this season.”

The New York International Gift Fair brings together the best designers and boutiques to make exclusive products available for a limited time. During the market, emiLime will present its fourth winter collection featuring handcrafted accessories made entirely from natural materials, including alpaca, sheep wool and bull horn. Every piece is designed to be multi-functional and this particular collection features beautiful intarsia and brand new stiches for the artisans that make your exclusive emiLime accessory one of a kind.

All the designs are created as a collaborative effort between emiLime and the artisans with Emily spending half her year in Peru during the design and production process to ensure the fair treatment of everyone involved as well as draw inspiration from the amazing country and people.  Every piece in the emiLime collection is traceable and has a collective story from the artisan behind the inspiration.
