Jan. 22, 2012 - PRLog -- Organic cappuccinos, caffe lattes and other coffees are now available at the African Village Kitchen, located on 43 Walker St, Dandenong (a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia).

In the past, Melbournians have had to go to the city or inner suburbs like Carlton to get a cup of organic coffee.

Proprietor and chef, Abdoulie Sallah, explained the origins of why he started to provide organic coffee.

"I used to buy coffee from Africa myself, from Kenya, and bring it to sell here in Australia," Sallah says. "In those days in Africa, you didn't call where you drank coffee a 'cafe', you called it a 'meeting place'. They would take the green beans, roast it in front of you, grind it, and strain it right there. That was the tradition. Now with my own café in Dandenong, I tried many different kinds of coffee, and went back to using coffee beans from Africa, this time coffee beans from Ethiopia, which are roasted here in Australia."

Organic coffee is coffee grown without using artificial chemicals and fertilizers. The coffee plant is native to Ethiopia. As it is the native environment for coffee, most coffee which grows in Ethiopia is organic and needs no artificial pesticides or fertilizers.

As well as each of the popular Italian styles of coffee, the African Village Kitchen also offers traditional Ethiopian-style coffee, using real cinnamon.

The African Village Kitchen also serves a selection of hand-made savoury pies and pastries created and baked in-store, as well as traditional West African cuisine.
