Jan. 21, 2012 - PRLog -- The Etchingham Improvements Committee (EiC), a local group who raise money to put on village events such as the summer fete & firework display, have successfully been granted a free 420 tree pack, which are to be planted as a Village Jubilee wood,  helping promote the wide range of benefits that trees bring to both local communities and wildlife.
Over 1,000 registrations were received for community packs this autumn and as a result, more than 200,000 free trees will be planted. Tree packs are being provided in partnership with Ibuyeco, one of the UK's leading eco insurance providers who have worked with the Trust for over two years and have generously raised £300,000 for the charity so far.
Etchingham Improvements spokesperson Chas French commented “We are so pleased to have been awarded the free tree pack from the Woodland Trust.  Tree planting is a fantastic and fun way for us to do something lasting in our local area. We hope our trees will help attract wildlife and make a real difference to everyone who will see them. It's incredible to think that in just 5 years, our trees will be as tall as us.  We’d like to thank Mr Christopher Ahrens for allowing us to plant what will be almost an acre of woodland on his land. We are inviting as many people from the community to come along and help us make a lasting legacy for the Village. We are also offering the Village residents the opportunity to add a Perspex plaque to their tree, which could be in the family name or maybe in memory of a lost one etc.
Hundreds of communities across the UK will celebrate with a public tree planting event, more are encouraged to follow this example by registering for a free tree pack for spring or autumn 2012 for their local area, as part of the Trust's Jubilee Woods Project.
Victoria Hodson from the Woodland Trust added: "We are delighted that the Etchingham Improvements Committee are using our free tree scheme to plant more trees in Etchingham. Communities are transforming their neighbourhoods, growing their own fruits and food, creating shade and shelter, and providing new homes for wildlife. This year, we are offering more free trees as part of our Jubilee Woods Project to celebrate Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee, and would love more communities to get involved."
In February, the Trust is encouraging millions of people across the UK to come together and plant one million trees in one month to celebrate 60 years since The Queen's accession to the throne.
The community tree packs are part of the Trust's Jubilee Woods project, which aims to plant 6 million trees by the end of 2012. With HRH The Princess Royal as patron, it is only one of a handful of projects to carry official Royal approval.

The Etchingham Improvements Committee, (EiC) was founded in 1953, the year of the Queen’s coronation. Its main purpose was to maintain the Queens Gardens, an area of green next to the church, named so as a memory of the coronation. Today the EiC raises money to organise & run local events that provide entertainment for, & help maintain the fabric of village life.  The committee is made up of a small team of local volunteer residents & they are responsible for the village fete, an annual flower & dog show, the Halloween party & firework display to name a few.
The Woodland Trust now offers a range of mechanisms to inspire and enable large organisations, schools, community groups and individuals to plant trees on their own land.
The Jubilee Woods project has The Queen's support - and HRH The Princess Royal as patron. It will commemorate the 2012 Diamond Jubilee, marking Queen Elizabeth's 60th year as monarch. Next to Queen Victoria in 1897, she is the only British sovereign ever to celebrate a Diamond Jubilee. The Woodland Trust is the UK’s leading woodland conservation charity. It has 300,000 members and supporters. Visit www.jubileewoods.org.uk for more details.

The Trust has three key aims: i) to enable the creation of more native woods and places rich in trees ii) to protect native woods, trees and their wildlife for the future iii) to inspire everyone to enjoy and value woods and trees. Established in 1972, the Woodland Trust now has over 1,000 sites in its care covering approximately 20,000 hectares (50,000 acres). Access to its sites is free.
