Jan. 20, 2012 - PRLog -- Pasadena Playhouse, an iconic theatrical venue since 1917, opens its critically acclaimed play ART by Yasmina Reza, the screenwriter of the award-winning play God’s of Carnage, on January 29, 2012.  In conjunction with the play’s run through February 19, 2012, the theater has partnered with Los Angeles art gallery, Artspace Warehouse, exhibiting an installation of minimalist paintings from Swiss artist Beatrice Schnitzer and Santa Monica artist Deborah Lynn Irmas.  Their artworks will be on view  in the theater’s Friend’s Circle hall, throughout the play’s run January 29 – February 19, 2012.  A beautiful way for the theater-goers of Pasadena Playhouse, fans of Yasmina Reza’s Tonny-winning ART play to revel in this painting installation pre and post-show.

About the play:  ART is the International Tony Award-Winning Smash Hit, written by Yasmina Reza. In Christopher Hampton’s translation it’s directed by David Lee. The stellar cast: Roger Bart (Yvan), Michael O’Keefe (Serge), Bradley Whitford (Marc).  Running time: 80 minutes. Overview: What is more valuable - good art or good friends? Serge, Marc and Yvan are about to find out. When Serge drops a small fortune on a controversial painting, the sparks (and words) begin to fly as each experience the dire consequences of adhering to one's taste in art. Written by white-hot playwright Yasmina Reza (GOD OF CARNAGE), this acclaimed international hit will be directed by nine-time Emmy Award-winner David Lee. David has directed many of The Playhouse's biggest hits, including CAN-CAN, LIGHT UP THE SKY and CAMELOT.

About the painting artists: BEATRICE SCHNITZER is born in 1968 in Waldshut-Tiengen, Germany, Beatrice Schnitzer is a professional painter, a member of the rock band Mitho Kanywa and a bass player in the film project «Raven».  In her latest project "wir sind jetzt" (we are now) she dealt with the subjective and objective realities of today.
DEBORAH LYNN IRMAS is interested in both abstract and figurative forms and how they interact.  These forms sometimes develop an intricate and complicated relationship.  Her process is monotype, a type of printmaking made by painting on a smooth surface, glass or copper plate.  The image is then transferred onto a sheet of paper by using a monotype printing press.

About Pasadena Playhouse: The Pasadena Playhouse has a rich and vibrant history dating back to 1917 when an itinerant acting troupe by the name of the Gilmor Brown Players settled in Pasadena - at the time a sleepy little town of farmers and wealthy vacationers. The town fell in love with the Players and before they had spent ten years here, locals donated the money to move the company out of the derelict old burlesque house they had been renting and into the newly constructed Pasadena Playhouse in 1924, originally known as the Pasadena Community Playhouse. At the time, The Playhouse was the largest and most technically advanced venue on this side of the Mississippi. Its community theatre beginnings and the tremendous amount of local support led George Bernard Shaw to dub Pasadena “the Athens of the West,” likening the enterprise to the ancient Festival Dionysia.
Thanks to a monumental partnership between the Pasadena government, local businesses and our dedicated patrons and philanthropists, the theater reopened its doors in 1985. In recent years, The Playhouse has become instrumental in launching new works and landmark revivals for the American Theatre, while displaying a commitment to cultural and theatrical diversity, which is reflected in seasons featuring Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning plays and musicals.
Highlights since 2005 include the launch of the national tour of PURLIE (with the Goodman Theatre); LOOPED (starring Valerie Harper), which opened on Broadway in February 2009 and garnered a 2010 Tony Award nomination; Sister Act, The Musical, which played in the West End at the London Palladium Theatre and is currently on Broadway at the Broadway Theatre (Five 2011 Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical); and Baby It's You!, which played at Broadway's Broadhurst Theatre (2011 Tony Award nominee). The world premiere of Ray Charles Live!, now titled Unchain My Heart, The Ray Charles Musical, is scheduled to open on Broadway during the 2011-12 Season.
