Jan. 18, 2012 - PRLog -- Many parents have lost control because they don’t understand what their children are saying online, with whom they’re talking and the dangers their children face in today’s voyeuristic society.

As part of the free 2012 Social Media Summit set for May 23rd, author and criminal investigator Danine Manette will offer a free workshop “Protecting Your Children Online,” which will present methods for tracking children’s online activities, deciphering their codes, monitoring them via parental blocks and spyware, getting background information on their associates, recognizing when they are being bullied and what legal recourse is available, eliciting critical information from them, establishing a parental network, and MUCH more.

The workshop is set for 9:30 am. to 10:45 a.m., on May 23, 2012.  It is part of the free 2012 Social Media Summit taking place at the University.  To register for the free workshop or the free 2012 Social Media Summit, go online to www.HarrisburgU.edu/SMS2012

Manette is a Criminal Investigator, former Juvenile Probation Officer and the Author of Ultimate Betrayal: Recognizing, Uncovering and Dealing with Infidelity. She has been a guest on both the Oprah Winfrey Show and NBC’s Today Show, and has also been cited as an expert on various topics pertaining to the juvenile justice system, bullying, interpersonal relationships and cyber safety for numerous television, radio, newspaper, and Internet pieces.  She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Welfare from the University of California at Berkeley, and her Doctorate from Hastings College of Law in San Francisco. She’s worked as a Milieu Therapist in a children’s treatment facility, a Juvenile Probation Officer and currently works in the field of Criminal Investigations in Oakland, California.

After being entrenched in the criminal justice system for over 20 years, she opened her own Private Investigations firm in 2009. As the married mother of three, she lives in Berkeley California where she is working on a series of children’s books, as well as several other quality of life enrichment projects. Her keen understanding of the law as it pertains to juveniles, coupled with her extensive experience in investigative techniques while parenting two tech savvy teenagers, has amply prepared her to offer insight and guidance to parents struggling to navigate through this new age of cyber intrusion.
