Jan. 18, 2012 - PRLog -- When you are planning your youngster’s birthday party, it’s always fun to incorporate something unusual or unique. There are so many party themes to choose from and so many favorite characters, that the possibilities are really endless. Incorporating goodies, decorations, and games, you may wonder if there is some new way to bring a little fun to the festivities. Hosting a puppet show based on the theme is perfect.

Kids birthday party ideas tend to center around the child’s interests and age, and this is especially important in planning a puppet show. If your child’s birthday party theme will revolve around a favorite character, it’s the perfect opportunity to put together a puppet show that involves that character. Whether it’s a cartoon favorite, a movie theme, or a well-known theme park figure, you can use that as a starting point in your preparations. One of the first things you will need to do is secure the needed puppets. If puppets aren’t available in specific characters, an alternative is to use your child’s own toys or stuffed animals. Small children, especially, will be intrigued by a puppet show that involves their own belongings.

Animal themes are great for creating a birthday puppet production. Animal puppets are available in so many types and sizes, that it is easy to track down the right characters for your show. Activity based birthday themes are also very well-suited to puppet activities, as people puppets are easy to find, and can be used to model an activity. Sources for puppets include specialty puppet stores, toy departments and stores, and auction sites.

Once you’ve decided on puppets or toys for your production, you need to create a story for the puppets to tell. If you are working with specific characters, you can re-tell a story that the youngsters already know. You can also create a unique story. Keep the time short for younger children, just a few minutes long. For older children, a longer story is appropriate, as attention spans are longer. A story that involves an adventure or mystery is perfect, regardless of the age. Perhaps the characters will solve the mystery of the missing birthday candles. Perhaps the characters will think the party is theirs, and the conflict will be resolved when the real birthday child is introduced. An interactive skit will keep the kids involved and attentive, making the puppet show especially memorable and vibrant.

In preparing to do a birthday puppet show, it’s important to find a good puppet stage for the action. Fortunately, there are lots of homemade options, and you don’t need to find a professional stage. Conduct the show from behind a couch or chair. Turn a card table on its side, and drape a sheet or blanket over the front and around the edges. Pin a colorful piece of fabric over a long wooden dowel or piece of PVC pipe, and enlist some helpers to hold the curtain at the ends while the show is in progress. Drape a sheet over a banister. There are numerous ways to create the right puppet stage without spending any money.

Kids birthday party ideas are fun to brainstorm, and more fun to organize and execute. Puppet productions provide memorable activities that will keep the children entertained for a few minutes, and give them something exciting to talk about when they go home. The incorporation of a puppet show into your child’s party is a fun way to make the day really unique and special.
