Jan. 17, 2012 - PRLog -- Steve Harshbarger of Asset Conversion Services was quoted as saying “that although we still have our corporate headquarters in Grass Valley CA, our growth in 2011 called for us to open up two new warehouses in Santa Clara and San Jose”.  When asked why a company that focuses on Sun Memory needed so much space Harshbarger went on to say “ We need the space because a lot of our used ‘ hard to find’ Sun Memory comes from older Sun Servers which we buy on a regular bases. When Oracle or HP cannot get Sun Original Memory for older systems, they come to Asset Conversion Services. We are constantly on the lookout for used Sun Servers to help us keep our Sun memory inventory current.  Another reason we have added two new warehouses is that we are expanding our operation to include hard to find HP and IBM memory. Typically the used systems we buy are rarely older than five years old, but you would be surprised at the calls we get from other countries like Viet Nam or Guam that have severs  still running critical data on older Sun Microsystems servers. Sun Microsystems servers seem to have a very long lasting shelf life, if they didn’t, we probably would not be in this business.  We are excited about our foray into HP and IBM memory, but Sun Microsystems memory will still remain our core business model”.
Asked if people moving to the Cloud has affected their business “Not at all, in fact we are a partner with some of the largest cloud (collocation) companies in the world, the only difference is that our Sun Memory modules get sent to fewer locations. Also, since we are vendors for HP, IBM and Oracle, a lot of times we get orders from those companies for their customers. It is kind of a spider web effect, (as an example) where in the past when we supplied all of Cisco’s mission critical server memory directly to Cisco, we now supply it to a company that Cisco has contracted to act like their purchasing department for all of their IT needs.  A lot of companies have gone this route to ease the cost of purchasing memory and other IT equipment.  The draw-back is that they never have access to better product or pricing, because they are locked in to whoever their purchasing partner deems to be the supplier.  We have seen numerous occasions where companies are getting inferior product and paying higher prices for all sorts of IT equipment because they are locked in.  Luckily for Asset Conversion Services we saw this trend coming and have made the necessary changes, to the way we market Sun Memory and our other IT offerings”.
