RateTea Now Allows Registered Users To Add New Teas Directly To Tea Database For Rating And Review

Jan. 18, 2012 - PRLog -- RateTea, an online community and social networking website oriented towards tea drinkers and centered around tea ratings and reviews, announces a change in their policies and site features, allowing registered users of the site to directly add new teas to their database, without requiring immediate administrative approval.

The old policy:

When RateTea launched, and up until recently, users of the site were able to suggest new teas for listing on the site and addition to the site's database of teas, but the actual addition of teas to the database and listing of the teas on the website had to wait for approval by a site administrator.  This approach had the downside of requiring users to wait before reviewing teas that were not yet listed in the database.

Due to the site's rapid growth, the administrators had become slow at responding to requests, which resulted in an inferior user experience.  RateTea responded by giving users increased autonomy and control, and putting an online help system and several safeguards in place to ensure that users would add teas in a responsible manner.

Tea listings are still screened:

In order to maintain the integrity of the database of teas, and the accuracy of the site as a whole, each individual tea added will still be screened by a RateTea administrator, to ensure that it is not a duplicate entry, and that it has been correctly classified with the correct brand or tea company, the correct style (variety of tea), and the correct region of production.  However, this screening will now happen after the tea has been added, so that users have an improved experience of being able to review new teas without having to wait.

Tea companies  wishing to add or list their own teas:

RateTea does not allow tea companies to review their own teas, but encourages tea companies to list their own teas on the site.  Accordingly, RateTea has developed a separate tool for tea companies to add teas, distinct from the page intended for regular users of the site.  Tea company employees or representatives can contact RateTea for more information on this tool, which is exclusively available to tea companies, and not to the general public.
