More Than Mobility’s Charitable Support for 2012: Contact the Elderly and Arthritis Care

Jan. 16, 2012 - PRLog -- Well the New Year is properly under way and we hope that 2012 will be a peaceful one.  It does seem that 2011 with Royal Weddings and lots of sport just whizzed past so we expect 2012 with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics and Paralympics will turn out to be similar.

Our thoughts are turning to sandwiches, scones and cake with a nice pot of Assam tea.  A treat these days with everyone so busy, but we have discovered that for many elderly people across the country it is the only real contact they have with other people and can be a real lifeline.

We are talking specifically about Contact the elderly, an established charity that does a brilliant thing – it brings together volunteers who open up their home and provide an afternoon tea on a Sunday afternoon to a number of local elderly people, who are taxied to the house by other volunteers.  Just a few times a year for the volunteers, once a month for the visitors, it keeps people a little bit more connected and provides something to look forward to in the diary.

At More Than Mobility we were inspired by the way Contact the elderly has quietly gone about this since its founding in 1965; and we will be supporting them this year as one of our charities of the year.  You can find out about them by visiting their website www.contact-the-elderly.org.uk , please do consider volunteering or donating.

Many of our customers who use mobility products suffer from Arthritis, some of the 10 million people in the UK who have arthritis. More Than Mobility’s other charity of the year is Arthritis Care who are a fantastic resource for sufferers.  Check out their campaign to “walk around the world in 50 million steps” or just have a look at the work they are doing across all forms of this widespread problem.
