Victor Chandler Chase Betting (Sat Jan 21st 2012)

Jan. 15, 2012 - PRLog -- The race has been supported since it was first run back in 1987 by leading bookmaker Victor Chandler, while despite being registered as the Clarence House Chase, it more commonly referred to by its sponsored title.

Its inaugural running was due to take place in 1987; however, the race was called off that year due to heavy frost, while the 1988 contest was also lost due to fog. When first run the race was a handicap chase run over 2m, but after the race returned to Ascot in 2007 after the track improvements the distance was extended by a furlong. It was also in that year (2007) that the race was upgraded to Grade 1 status, and no longer run as a handicap.

The Victor Chandler Chase is often a very good pointer for the Queen Mother Champion Chase, run two months later at the Cheltenham Festival. In the races history three horses have won both races in the same season – Viking Flagship (1994), Call Equiname (1999) and Master Minded (2009).
