Jan. 4, 2012 - PRLog -- The Lofoten and Vesteralen Islands lie off the coast of Norway above the Arctic Circle.  They are among some of the most attractive areas in the country where you can see picturesque scenery and awesome wildlife, especially during February when the landscape is white over with snow.

What makes a holiday here even more special at this time of year is the possibility of seeing the Northern Lights on tours. The Lofoten and Vesteralen Islands are a prime location for witnessing these incredible phenomena as they are within the Arctic realm and away from any light pollution. Scientists have also predicted that during this winter and the next, the Northern Lights will appear more intense than in previous years due to increased solar activity, so it’s a fantastic time to book one of these breaks.

On the Lofoten and Vesteralen tour, guests will stay in fabulous accommodation in Sortland where all meals are included. There are also some amazing excursions to show off Norway’s incredible nature, culture and wildlife. Each excursion is led by an experienced guide who will regale guests with interesting facts about the places they visit. On an Arctic boat trip, guests can delve into the history of Norway’s aquaculture at the visitor centre. During a whale watching boat trip there may even be a chance of spotting wonderful orca or humpback whales whilst out on the open waves.

Another of the excursions aims to give travellers an understanding into the culture of the indigenous Sami population. Guests can visit a traditional farm, meet the family that live there and listen to their tales of life in the cold north of Norway as they enjoy customary hot drinks and snacks. They can then meet the family’s herd of reindeer and learn how to throw a lasso just like a native.

Linda Gilmour works for, a travel company based in North West England which has recently added the Lofoten and Vesteralen tour to its list of products. Linda comments, “The excursions we run on these tours are extremely popular. With trips such as moose safaris, eagle watching and Northern Lights hunting tours to choose from, there is never a dull moment on a holiday to Norway’s Lofoten and Vesteralen Islands”.
