Jan. 3, 2012 - PRLog -- For this first pet POP-UP in the country, the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals® and Whitegate PR partnered with Metro Paws, Stella & Chewy’s, Sam & Tasha, Sturdi Products, and Yeowww! Catnip® to offer pet adoptions and pet products under one roof. Thanks to these vendors donating ten percent of their proceeds to the cause, nearly $1,000 was raised to benefit the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals.

Twenty furry Little New Yorkers from a range of Alliance participating shelters and rescue groups found loving adopters at the POP-UP Shop. Among the groups that showed cats and dogs were Brooklyn Bridge Animal Coalition, City Critters, Dog Habitat Rescue, Metropolitan Maltese Rescue, Picasso Veterinary Fund® of the Mayor’s Alliance, Posh Pets Rescue, Sean Casey Animal Rescue, and others.

Throughout November, adorable homeless pets were featured each day in the Roger Smith POP-UP Shop window. Each Wednesday evening, the Mayor’s Alliance featured additional pets for adoption on its new adoption van (a gift from the Petco Foundation) parked in front of the POP-UP Shop. Black Friday was the biggest sales day of the month at the POP-UP Shop, thanks to the “Free Lickety Stik with Purchase Promotion.”  Other fun events included a Wags & Tags Trunk Show, a Paranormal Pooch book-signing event, an interview with Schmitty, The Weather Dog, a book signing event that featured Bocker, The Famous Labradoodle, and a Sam & Tasha Trunk Show.

Jane Hoffman, President of the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals, expressed appreciation to adopters, sponsors, and supporters who made this first Adoption POP-UP Shop a success: “This inaugural effort demonstrates how creative and collaborative approaches to pet adoption can create positive results for the animals.”

Throughout the month, shop passersby viewed adoptable dogs and cats in the POP-UP Shop window, while a live video cam delivered real-time images of the animals to Internet audiences. The POP-UP Shop’s busy midtown location on Lexington near 47th Street gave many tourists and international visitors a unique view of New York City’s pet adoption community.

About the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals®
The Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals, Inc., founded in 2002 and powered by Maddie’s Fund, The Pet Rescue Foundation, with support from the ASPCA, is a coalition of more than 150 animal rescue groups and shelters working with Animal Care & Control of New York City (AC&C) to end the killing of healthy and treatable cats and dogs at AC&C shelters. To achieve that goal, the Alliance, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation, helps its Alliance Participating Organizations (APOs) work to their highest potential to increase pet adoptions and spay/neuter rates, with the goal of transforming New York City into a no-kill community by 2015. www.AnimalAllianceNYC.org
