Jan. 2, 2012 - PRLog -- DETROIT – Michigan GMC dealers and many other dealerships were more than pleased with the November sales results. Vehicles contributed to the frenzied list of fast-selling retail items during last month, and it appears that Michigan GMC dealers and others were able to make a strong showing.
The annual sales rate of US vehicles topped 13.6 million in November, while it seems the projected Seasonally Adjusted Annual Rate (SAAR) will drop a bit in December to 13.4 million. As for the retail sales in December, they are expected to rise 23.7 percent, which will be 13 percent higher than December of 2010. If this does happen, it will make December the second best sales month of 2011.
The final projected sales for the year by Edmunds.com suggest that the year will close at 12.8 million in sales for the year. This number would be about a 10 percent increase from the same closing last year, which ended at 11.6 million in sales.
“December sales are still good in the context of 2011’s overall sales, but new car transactions slowed down by the middle of this month,” said Edmunds.com Vice Chairman Jeremy Anwyl in an Edmunds.com article. “When you consider that sales performance late this year was boosted by a tailwind of buyers who deferred their purchases this summer, it suggests we may have some sales speed bumps to deal with next year.”
The market share is also being projected with General Motors still in the lead with a 19.1 percent December forecast. This will be up one percent from November and down half a percent from December of last year. Ford may take second with a projected 16.7 percent market share; Toyota in third with a 13.9 percent projected market share and the last of the Detroit Three, Chrysler, in fourth with an 11.2 percent projected market share.
In total, the retail sales are projected to come to a total at 1,033,700 units. This would mean the first time the retail sales will be more than one million units since 2009 during the Cash for Clunkers program.
Michigan GMC dealers should see the final numbers in early January and be able to share in the celebration of the seemingly successful 2011 year.
