Go Deeper!

Yin Yoga already challenges you to plunge deeper into your hips and spine than previously imagined. Dive even deeper into understanding the Yin Yoga system in this 30 hour Yin Teacher Training Course. You will learn which tissues are being targeted, the physiological benefits of practicing in a Yin fashion, and the subtle effects which contribute to the all-over good feeling the practice creates. We will deeply investigate more than 25 Yin Yoga poses, learning individual-specific alignment as well as which energy channels are being stimulated, which chakras correspond to those channels, and the potential emotional balancing that may result. You will viscerally integrate the information so that, upon completion, you are able to not only teach Yin Yoga classes, but also you are able to field students’ questions with confidence and true clarity. Learn how to increases your flexibility, open your hips, quads, hamstrings, lower back , shoulders and enhance your overall sense of well-being. Yin Yoga targets the connective tissues, such as the ligaments, bones, and even the joints of the body that normally are not exercised very much in a more active style of asana practice.Yin Yoga is a passive form of asana practice in which students sink into familiar floor postures for 5-minute intervals. Rather than engaging muscular strength and the cardiovascular system, Yin Yoga appropriately and safely exercises the body’s connective tissue in what is known as a cooling practice. This means you won’t sweat or elevate your heart rate, and you may challenge your ideas about exercise. This practice enhances flexibility and balances the flow of energy to organ systems, literally juicing up the joints, aiming for a deep level of health and well being.

Corina Benner, Director of Wake Up Yoga, took her first yoga class in 1992 (although she spent much of her childhood standing on her head!), and has been teaching yoga since 1999. Her winding professional path led her through the worlds of publishing, advertising, wine sales, independent film, and money management, but her heart and spirit drew her to yoga. Viewing asana practice as an entry-point to self-study, Corina weaves the ancient tenets of yoga philosophy into her teaching, inspiring students to discover how this ancient practice remains relevant today in their own lives both on and off the mat. Her positive vibrations and contagious optimism empower students of all levels to practice with enthusiasm, while her detailed instruction and intelligent sequencing create a safe space for students to explore the landscapes of their body, mind, heart and soul. Corina was certified to teach by the highly esteemed Cyndi Lee at OM Yoga Center in NYC where she subsequently taught for two years, before relocating to Philadelphia. Her Yin Yoga experience was gleaned through over 150 hours of study with Paul Grilley, Yin Yoga’s most widely respected authority. Corina opened Wake Up Yoga in 2002, inspired to create a warm and nurturing community-centered yoga studio where people of all ages, stages, colors and flavors could come together with breath and movement, in silence and in laughter, to deeply connect with the underlying current that unites us all.
