Girls Scouts' Gingerbread Wartburg Takes Top Honors in National Contest

Dec. 22, 2011 - PRLog -- A  “gingerbread Wartburg” has received top honors from the website, Thisoldhouse.com.  Girl Scout Troop #1745 of Yonkers took the Grand Prize for best gingerbread construction.  Under the guidance of Troop Leader Victoria Oshiro, the girls, along with their families, created The Wartburg Adult Care Community out of gingerbread, candy, pretzels and other treats.  The exhibit, which fills an entire tabletop matches color, shape and scale of most of The Wartburg’s buildings, including the 1904 chapel, whose red doors were made out of Twizzler sticks and the large outdoor Rotunda, whose cedar shake roof was represented with cereal flakes.

“The care and craft that went into creating these gingerbread models is astonishing,” said David Gentner, President and CEO of The Wartburg.  “The Troop also came to The Wartburg and provided a full holiday festival, complete with a play, dance and musical performances.”  

Ann Frey, Director of Volunteers said, “We truly appreciate the hard work and effort that the Girl Scouts made to help our residents have a beautiful and meaningful holiday season.”
