Three Gig Harbor Parks Set S.A.I.L for Healthier Horizons

Peninsula Falls Prevention Coalition project brings the Stay Active and Independent for Life program to three area parks

Dec. 21, 2011 - PRLog -- Residents of Gig Harbor recently noticed some new additions to their favorite walking trails. With thanks to the Peninsula Fall Prevention Coalition, and to the City of Gig Harbor, three area parks now have S.A.I.L instructional signs installed along their walking trails. S.A.I.L, Staying Active and Independent for Life, is a series of simple exercises designed to help reduce our risks of suffering a fall related injury by improved balance, muscle tone, and flexibility.

The signs at Volunteer Park, Key Peninsula, were made possible by the generous financial contributions from Key Peninsula Firefighters' Union and Metro Parks. Signs at KLM Park were donated by Merrill Gardens of Gig Harbor, and signs along the Cushman Trail at Hollycroft and Olympic Drive were made possible by Visiting Angels.

A special thanks go out to Nanette Tatum from Pierce County Fire District 5, Dan Lilly, Marco Malich, and Terri Reed from the City of Gig Harbor for all their hard work in coordinating this project and making it happen. Thank you!
