Dec. 21, 2011 - PRLog -- Hello, good evening and welcome. As the unctuous and oleaginous Sir David Frost used
to say. Probably. I’m delighted to be taken over the tiller of the good ship Meze; it’s an exciting time. In an age where barely a day goes by without an email from a former colleague announcing they are “going freelance” (read “being made redundant”) it’s refreshing to be involved with publishers prepared to invest in good journalism. At least, I think that was the point my ex-wife was trying to make...

On which note, another effect of the devastation being wreaked upon the newspaper industry is that Fleet Street is awash with good men and women in need of a decent crust. (Not literally, like tramps and soup kitchens and all that Dickens sort of stuff.) Which is why we have been able to assemble a crack team to delight, inform, entertain, amuse and, occasionally, provoke you. Meet them over the page.

Each month, we will be filling you with great ideas for house and garden – read Helen Birch’s inspiring piece on having Christmas with class. Veteran culture junkie and hack Steve Morrissey will be whittling down the best of the month’s cinema crop. (He’s very pale. And scuttles home before darkness falls – it’s that sort of neighbourhood.) The hugely talented Lizzie Rivera, as capable as she is glamorous, joins us from the Sunday Times. She’s so young she’s the only one of us that can remember how to do shorthand. The good stuff is hers. The shoddy stuff probably mine. And oenophile Will Font will glug, gurgle and gulp his way through gallons of grog for your greater good. (That’s enough alliteration – Ed.)

Hang on – I am the ed.

Who said that? Creepy…

Throw in an interview with the most highly decorated soldier in the history of the War of the Michelin, Alain Ducasse, who talks about being the sole survivor of a plane crash (no, really), a heart-to-heart with Charlie ‘Fast Show’ Higson, expert insider’s travel guides to Belfast and weekend wonder hotels, plus a clutch of sohot- they-sizzle restaurants and you’ll be rolling the Meze way.

Oh. Yeah. Happy Christmas and all that palaver.
