Follow on Google News | Students land work on the set of Snow White and the HuntsmanLevel 2 Hair and Media Make-up students at Fareham College have just returned from working on location for upcoming Hollywood blockbuster, Snow White and the Huntsman.
By: Steph Hall It has been filmed in Surrey where Hairdressing Lecturer, Karen Smith’s daughter, found the set whilst walking the dog. Karen went back to the location to see if the students could be given the opportunity to undertake work experience. The site manager agreed and they have been paid to work as runners and marshals. Tracey Thorpe, the group’s tutor, said: ‘It is amazing for them to see how it all happens. They have been round the set to the make-up area to get advice from the film’s hair and make-up artists, have viewed the props and costumes, and where the cast will be.’ The students’ main tasks were to stop members of the public from walking on to the set when scenes were being filmed. Many of them had to deal with conflicting situations and this enhanced their PR and communication skills. The nine students who have been reaping the rewards were overwhelmed and excited about the opportunity to work on such a high-profile film. Sasha Flater, formerly of Mayville High School, commented: ‘It’s a stepping stone towards our careers. I couldn’t believe we were there. Now it feels like anything is possible.’ Cassie Webbe, a former Hamble Community Sports College student said: It’s getting our foot in the door.’ Now the film has moved to another location, the students have made contact with the site managers who have invited the group back to help with the next film they are working on. Tracey added: ‘I cannot thank Chris and Bruno, the site managers, and the teams enough, for taking the time to show the girls round, look after them and give them their time. They were brilliant with them!’ End
