CBS Affiliate Utilizes the IAQ Video Network’s Norovirus Video

Dec. 19, 2011 - PRLog -- This week, WRBL, a CBS affiliate from Georgia, reported in their HealthWatch segment of the news about a CDC warning regarding the norovirus.  In their latest news report from last night, WRBL used parts of an online educational video produced by the IAQ Video Network for the news segment.

“Last week we were contacted by the WRBL and asked if we would share parts of a recent online video created to educate the public about the risks associated with exposure to the norovirus,” reported Paul Cochrane, President of Cochrane and Associates, the company behind the IAQ Video Network and the norovirus video.   “We were delighted to share this important information and we hope it helps WRBL’s viewers protect themselves from the virus.”

In the United States, the CDC estimates that more than 21 million cases of acute gastroenteritis are due to norovirus infections each year.  Noroviruses are a group of related, single-stranded RNA, non-enveloped viruses that cause acute gastroenteritis in humans.

Noroviruses are transmitted primarily through the fecal-oral route, either by consumption of fecally contaminated food or water or by direct person-to-person spread. Environmental and fomite contamination may also act as a source of infection. Evidence exists for transmission due to aerosolization of vomitus that presumably results in droplets contaminating surfaces or entering the oral mucosa and being swallowed.
