Dec. 18, 2011 - PRLog -- Should we be using Vaseline for eczema?

Your skin is the biggest organ the body has. If we believe that what we put on our skin is similar to eating it; would you feed your family purified engine oil?

Using Vaseline for eczema may not be an effective treatment plan. Vaseline actually draws nutrients away from the skin. These nutrients are desperately needed to help protect your skin and when it’s damaged, they are needed to help your skin recover. If you stop applying it, your skin can be in even worse shape than it was before, it means you have to constantly reapply it.

This article is not designed to debunk Vaseline, it is merely suggesting the merits of more natural substances. Protecting your skin from what is essentially engine oil (PETROLeum)

Products that contain mineral oils or petroleum jelly are used in cars. Do we really want to apply this to damaged skin that is in desperate need of natural, soothing products that not only protect our skin but allow it to heal, also.

Vaseline for Eczema versus Eczema Soap

It is recommended that people try everything natural before going the petroleum jelly route, Vaseline for eczema will not work.

Eczema, and other dry skin conditions require moisture in their healing process. Vaseline does not provide any of this moisture.  Admittedly, it does create a protective barrier from which your skin can recover, but why use a product that can only protect.

Damaged skin needs natural products that repair, sooth and protect the skin. Petroleum jelly can only do one of these three.

Mineral oils do keep moisture in, moisture you have to put there. However, it also stops your skin from breathing; your skin will lose its ability to regenerate itself. Damaged skin from eczema needs to heal; your skin needs nutrients to help it heal itself. Stopping your skin from working properly will mean it never fully recovers from the damage.

And that’s why we created Eczema Soap, a natural product that soothes, softens, provides nutrients for your skin and creates a protective barrier for your damaged skin to recover.
