Blessing Of The Toys A Unique Experience For Children This Christmas

Children To Bring Toys For Blessing This Christmas To Offer A Unique Way To Connect With The Christmas Story

Dec. 15, 2011 - PRLog -- First United Methodist Church of Arlington will host a Blessing of the Toys during its Christmas worship service on December 25 at 11:00 AM. The blessing will feature children bringing toys to the front of the historic Sanctuary to be blessed by Rev. Kay Lancaster.

“The purpose of this blessing is to help children understand the link between the gifts they have received and the gifts given by the Magi to Jesus,” says Rev. Kay Lancaster, associate pastor at FUMC of Arlington. “More than that,” continues Lancaster,
“it’s a way to help children connect their faith in Christ with the main way they learn and grow, which is through play.”

The Blessing of the Toys was started in 2010 by Rev. Steve West at Grace United Methodist in Huntsville, Ala. Lancaster, who oversees both the Adult and Children’s Ministries, felt the Blessing of the Toys would work well at FUMC of Arlington. “We have a vibrant Children’s Ministry,” says Lancaster, “and we are always trying to find ways to incorporate children into worship. We want them to learn that God blesses the whole of who we are.”
