Dec. 14, 2011 - PRLog -- Laurie Stevens' first novel in the Gabriel McRay series, "The Dark Before Dawn", has been named to the Kirkus Reviews Best of Indie 2011.   The magazine, which reviews more than 500 submissions each month, was founded in 1933 and is considered the definitive pre-publication review source within the literary and film industries.

"Stevens sets the stage for graphic sensory details and a fast-paced, tantalizing mystery that utilizes her passion and research in forensics and psychology... Readers will relate to the San Francisco and Los Angeles settings, and Stevens’ allusions to “Cask of Amontillado” and "Frankenstein" craft a story immersed in theater, disguise and secrecy." -- Kirkus Reviews

The "World's Toughest Critic" goes on to say,  "Memorable characters, macabre scenes and a dazzling portrayal of reality will leave readers anxious for book two in the Gabriel McRay series." -- Kirkus Reviews

In a recent interview with Laurie, she said "“I worked hard to make the reader feel that, upon opening the book, they are entering a kind of literary theme park ride where he/she buckles up, experiences a thrill and, at the end of the book, says, “wow what a ride!”
