Hiring activity in the Media( Electronic/Dotcom and entertainment) Sector in Sep-11 is 43% higher

The Indian entertainment and media sector is one of the fastest growing sectors in the economy, and has witnessed tremendous growth in last couple of years. However, starting mid 2008 the industry witnessed tumultuous conditions due to grim global economic conditions. Analysis of the job scenario for the sector indicates that 2011 has been a good year in terms of recruitment.

In Sep-11, hiring activity in the media sector was 25% above Jan-11 levels and 43% above the Sep-10 levels. The May-11 index at 1025 was the highest point on the job index in three years.  The three month moving average indices also indicate positive momentum in hiring with Sep-11 index moving up by 8% when compared to the previous month.

This is going to be an interesting space to watch for in the next few quarters despite tough market conditions at a macro level.”

A detailed analysis of the Naukri job speak index from mid 2008 indicates a jittery job sentiment in 2009. In Dec-08 hiring activity dipped by 38% when compared to the previous month.  The index for Dec-08 was at 451 which is the lowest figure in the last three years.  Recovery in the hiring scenario has been witnessed from around mid 2010.

Therefore, on an overall level the jobs in media sector seem to be still hiring at a steady pace. However, the trend in the coming months will be indexed to business confidence levels in the sector.
